16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
Every year, Family Support Trust (FST) joins the global community in commemorating the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an international campaign that runs from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day).
This period serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing need to end all forms of violence against women and girls and to promote equality, dignity, and respect for all.
For 2025, FST will align with the global and national theme, which emphasises collective responsibility in creating safer spaces for women, men, and children. Our activities will highlight the importance of breaking the silence, supporting survivors, and promoting community-based prevention efforts that challenge harmful norms and strengthen protection systems.
Through this year’s campaign, FST aims to:
FST will host a series of interactive and educational events across its programme areas during the 16 Days campaign, including:
Community Dialogues and Marches
Bringing together community leaders, survivors, youth, and local authorities to speak out against violence and promote prevention.
School Awareness Campaigns
Educating students on respect, consent, and gender equality.
Art and Theatre for Change
Partnering with youth artists and drama groups to raise awareness through creative expression.
Health and Counselling Outreach
Providing free medical, counselling, and information services to survivors and community members.
Social Media Campaign
Sharing stories, survivor testimonies, and educational messages to engage a wider audience online.
These activities serve to mobilise communities, strengthen partnerships, and inspire individuals to take a stand against gender-based violence.
Gender-based violence continues to affect thousands of Zimbabwean women and children every year. The 16 Days campaign is not only a time for reflection but also a call to sustained action throughout the year.
By raising awareness, empowering survivors, and engaging communities, FST continues to contribute to the national and global movement toward a society free from violence and discrimination.
