On December 10th, Family Support Trust Chitungwiza clinic proudly participated in a vibrant commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence (GBV) in the bustling areas of Jambanja and Huruyadzo. With support from Medecins Du Monde, this one-day event was not just a gathering; it was a powerful movement aimed at raising awareness about the pressing issues of sexual and gender-based violence while promoting the vital medical and psycho-social support services available to survivors in our community and the importance of reporting sexual and gender-based violence within 72 hours.

The campaign kicked off at the Jambanja shopping centre, where our team dazzled the crowd with an energetic dance performance that instantly drew people in. The atmosphere was electric, filled with laughter and rhythm as the Male Ambassadors engaged participants in meaningful conversations about GBV.
The event featured compelling drama performances and lively dance routines that captivated the audience, effectively communicating the urgent issues surrounding GBV. By harnessing the power of storytelling and artistic expression, we aimed to educate the community and foster a dialogue that encourages empathy, support, and action.
Drama and Dance: A Unique Approach

The engaging drama and dance performances in Jambanja and Huruyadzo created an interactive and dynamic environment that resonated deeply with the community. This approach attracted crowds and prompted audience members to reflect on their own experiences and beliefs surrounding GBV.
Through relatable narratives and characters, we highlighted the impact of sexual and gender-based violence, sparking conversations that might otherwise remain unspoken. The lively dance routines, performed by enthusiastic young people, energized the atmosphere, encouraging attendees to join in and express themselves. This broke down barriers of discomfort often associated with discussions about GBV, allowing for open dialogue and a deeper understanding of the issues at hand.
Engaging Men in the Conversation
An essential aspect of the campaign was our focus on engaging men in discussions about critical issues such as GBV, child sexual abuse, and the importance of early reporting. While many participants were aware of GBV, they often lacked knowledge about the appropriate steps to take when abuse occurs. Our team provided vital information on reporting procedures that prioritize the survivor’s safety and well-being. By fostering open conversations around these topics, we aim to empower men to take an active role in preventing GBV and supporting survivors. Through education and awareness, we can work together to create safer communities for everyone.
A Step Toward Change

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence event in Chitungwiza marked a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to address the pressing issue of GBV within our community. Through dynamic performances and engaging discussions, we successfully raised awareness about the realities of sexual and gender-based violence while promoting essential support services available to survivors.
The participation of community members, especially men, was instrumental in fostering meaningful conversations about GBV and the importance of early reporting. By highlighting the prevalence of GBV and the various contributing factors, we encouraged participants to reflect on their roles as advocates for change.
The insights gathered during our discussions illuminated the need for continued education and support, particularly in understanding the economic pressures that can exacerbate these issues. Together, we can pave the way for a future where everyone feels safe and supported in their communities.
